About J Prime Electric and Founder Di-Jae Smith

From Di-Jae

As an Annapolis native, I’ve been providing services to my community since I was 11 years old. As a kid, I shoveled snow and cut grass around the neighborhood. In high school, I ran my own ringtone business while holding down a job. I didn’t know it then, but I was learning what it takes to run a business: show up, do good work, and take care of your customers.

After graduating high school, I was drawn to the electrical field because I’ve always loved building things. Maybe it started with my love for Legos, or maybe it was my drive to serve the community. I spent years working in the field and studying the trade until it became second nature to me. That foundation led me to start J Prime Electric, a licensed electrical contracting company serving Maryland, Washington DC, and Northern Virginia.

Today, J Prime Electric delivers electrical work for general contractors, property owners, and businesses across commercial, retail, and residential markets. Our portfolio includes retail store build-outs at major shopping centers, commercial tenant fit-outs, lighting renovations, service upgrades, emergency generator systems, and EV charging installations. As an authorized Generac dealer, we also design and install standby power systems.

My focus now is leading J Prime Electric’s continued growth, expanding our commercial presence, taking on larger and more complex projects, and strengthening our relationships with the general contractors and clients who rely on us. The same work ethic I had shoveling driveways at 11 is what drives this company today.

Fully licensed and insured, J Prime Electric is ready to take on your next project.
